Got you covered! Bruffs paints CWA Hall free of charge

Bruff Painting Contractors have coordinated with a number of businesses to do a wash down and a complete re-paint of our Nambour CWA Hall free of charge.

“We were getting quotes to have our building painted - when Bruff’s offered to paint it free of charge,” said Hall Manager, Coleen Giles.

“Each year we like to choose a community organisation and do a good deed for them,” said Bruff Contractors Project supervisor Richard Chaplain. “Our partners also chip in and this year we got the job done for CWA Nambour. We painted the hall 12 years ago so we were happy to do it again.” Other companies to chip in included Paint City, Marcoola Scaffolding, RoofBitz and Saber Signs.

“We are so appreciative to have our hall, in Nambour’s Town Square, freshened up,” said Coleen. “It has taken many businesses to play a part, from the supply of scaffolding, high pressure tanks and cleaning equipment, paint etc.”

Nambour CWA Branch formed July 1928. The land on which the hall now stands was surveyed in 1955 by Fred Murray in 1958 and building began in 1958.  The first meeting was held in the Hall 16 July 1958 with 42 members attending.

It was officially opened 27 Sept. 1958 by Mr. D A Low Shire Chairman.

Building was funded by the fundraising efforts of the Branch members and by public donations, constructed by local tradespeople,   and was finally finished off with the help of local Service Clubs  and improvements have taken place as funds became available.

It has been down through generations and indeed still is an integral part of the town. This hall is part of the Community and is used almost every day by many community groups.

“We are always interested in welcoming new members and we have an enthusiastic group of women for our craft morning every Tuesday from 8:30 until 11am,” said Coleen. “They do some amazing crafts.” The ladies enjoy each other’s company whilst they work away at their crafts. Although, if you are not a crafty person, you are also most welcome!

CWA Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at 9:30am for a cuppa and meeting commencing at 10am until 11am and then a number of ladies participate in Tai Chi and movement classes which they thoroughly enjoy.

We have many activities being conducted in the hall including Yoga, Tai Chi, dancing classes, ballroom dancing classes, Stretch classes, after school drama classes, Kung Fu and Scottish Dancing.  These classes are run by individuals and community groups.

“In 2022 the CWA will celebrate 100 years, so our building will be lovely and fresh for the occasion."
